Just lately, there are some unusual signs being witnessed in Medjugorje. Shops are shutting their doors, and restaurants are down on trade. A local news portal – medjugorje.in – is reporting that the tourist season could face a “complete collapse” in Medjugorje this year.
Hotels, hostels, apartments, souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes and dozens of other businesses which in the past 30 years contributed to building the Herzegovina Las Vegas, turning over millions of marks, are operating to a much lesser extent than usual, and some are even closed during the peak season.
Recently, Italian TV aired a documentary about other alleged issues connected to Medjugorje and quoted an Italian tourist agency as saying that the number of Italian pilgrims visiting the village has fallen dramatically on the previous year.
